The Art of Minimalist Interior Design

We are often asked how to achieve a minimalist interior without it feeling cold or clinical. The answer is not restraint alone — it is selection. Every material, every object, every surface should justify its presence by the experience it creates.

Begin by reducing the palette to three materials, with one dominant. A single material across floor, joinery and textile lets the eye rest and makes the few contrasting elements feel deliberate rather than accidental.

Lighting follows the same logic. Uniform ceiling illumination flattens a room. Instead, we build pools of light at furniture height — a pendant over the table, a reading lamp beside the chair — which invites people to settle rather than to move through.

Finally, design for imperfection: unlacquered brass, oiled oak, lime plaster. Materials that record time rather than resist it bring warmth to minimalism that no amount of white paint can achieve.

A room is not finished when every object is placed. It is finished when every object is necessary.
