Design In Details
This 85 m² Colombo residence was reimagined as a calm, gallery-like living room. The palette is intentionally restrained — handcrafted white lime plaster walls, honed Calacatta marble flooring, and brushed brass architectural accents — allowing bespoke low-slung furniture and soft tropical sunlight to define the space's character.
The Luxury Living Room in Colombo represents an exercise in quiet sophistication. Designed as the social heart of a private family residence, the project replaces conventional luxury tropes — flashy ornamentation and loud colors — with architectural restraint, flawless execution, and raw material beauty.
Upon entering the residence, guests are greeted by a gallery-like foyer where natural light reflects off hand-troweled lime plaster walls. The layout flows uninterrupted into the primary conversation lounge, anchored by a custom 4-meter modular linen sofa and a monolithic low-slung oak coffee table.
Architectural joinery plays a key functional role. A full-height oak panel wall along the eastern elevation conceals a complete entertainment center, hidden bar cabinet, and climate control access panels behind push-to-open flush doors, ensuring zero visual clutter during daily life.
Lighting design was treated as a fundamental building material. Dual-circuit perimeter cove lighting washes the plaster walls in a warm 2700K glow, while hand-finished brass linear tracks suspended overhead frame the lounge zone, creating an intimate, glowing atmosphere after sunset.

"Less as luxury. Every object earns its place; every surface invites tactile interaction rather than visual spectacle."
The floorplan was stripped of heavy compartmentalizing walls to create an unobstructed sightline from the foyer through to the landscaped garden. Custom low-slung furniture maintains an open horizon line across the entire 85 m² plate, while concealed Lutron lighting scenes transition the room's mood from crisp daylight to warm golden evening glow.
Sustainability Note
All wall surfaces are coated in zero-VOC lime plaster sourced locally, promoting natural humidity regulation and healthy indoor air quality. Natural cross-ventilation through opposing floor-to-ceiling glass doors reduces air conditioning dependence by 35% during cooler morning hours.
